Why is this test important?
The glucose metabolism check helps detect insulin resistance and early stages of diabetes in time. It shows how well your body brings sugar from the blood into cells and whether the pancreas has to provide too much insulin for this.
It is particularly useful for fatigue, cravings, weight gain in the abdominal area, family history, or for monitoring the progress of diet, exercise, and therapy.
Included Parameters
- Insulin / C-peptide: Shows how much insulin your body produces. C-peptide measures your own insulin production; high insulin values with normal glucose often indicate insulin resistance.
- Glucose (fasting): Current blood sugar. Elevated values indicate disturbed sugar regulation up to diabetes.
- HbA1c (long-term blood sugar): Reflects the average blood sugar of the last 8–12 weeks and is suitable for monitoring progress.
- HOMA-IR (insulin resistance index): Calculated value from fasting insulin and glucose. The higher the value, the more likely insulin resistance is present.
Practical Notes on Blood Collection
For the best possible informative value, please come to the blood draw fasting (8–12 hours) and avoid intense physical exertion on the morning before the test.
